The Promise School Is Coming to PBS

We are going to be on PBS!

On Saturday, September 5 at 6:00 PM ET, our family and The Promise School will be featured in the season premiere of PBS’s award-winning series, A World of Difference: Embracing Neurodiversity.

Seeing something that began with our own children and our own search for answers reach families across the country is hard to put into words.

We could not be more proud.

Our Story

The Promise School started because we were parents trying to figure out what our children needed.

Like so many families, we knew our kids were bright. We also knew that the traditional educational path was not working for them. After receiving their neurodivergent diagnoses, we found ourselves asking the same questions so many parents ask.

Where will they be understood?

Who will recognize what they are capable of instead of focusing only on where they struggle?

Is there a school where they can learn differently without feeling like they are somehow less than everyone else?

We searched. We learned. We advocated.

And eventually, we realized we needed to create the kind of school we had been looking for ourselves.

That promise to our children became The Promise School.

Today, we get to watch students walk through our doors and discover that school can feel different. They can be challenged and supported. They can build skills without losing confidence. They can be surrounded by teachers and therapists who understand that there is no single right way for a child to learn.

That is what we wanted for our own children.

It is what we want for every child who comes here.

Watch Us on PBS

We would love for our Promise School families, friends, teachers, supporters, and Charleston community to watch with us.

A World of Difference: Embracing Neurodiversity premieres:

Saturday, September 5
6:00 PM ET
WUCF TV / PBS

The program will also be available to stream free nationwide on the PBS app. Search for A World of Difference.

And if you watch, please let us know. This is a special moment for our family and our school, but it belongs to this entire community too.

One More Piece of Good News

We have extended late enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year.

We know that sometimes a family realizes after the school year is already approaching that their child needs something different.

If that is where you are right now, please reach out.

You do not have to have everything figured out before you call us. We have been the parents sitting on the other side of that conversation.

Our classes are intentionally small, so space is limited, but we would be happy to talk with you about your child and see whether The Promise School may be the right fit.

Thank you to everyone who has believed in The Promise School, trusted us with your children, supported our teachers, encouraged our family, and helped this little idea grow into what it is today.

We cannot wait to see The Promise School on PBS.
